Hall, Gordon

My wife, Margaret, and I live in the English Lake District with our Flatcoats. I used to work for the National Trust managing their houses, castles, gardens and woodland first in North Wales and then here in the Lake District. As a 'mid-life challenge' I gave that up and, with Margaret, set up a new passenger boat business on Coniston Water.

We have always had retreiver breeds - my family having had flatcoats years ago. My parents also had a private pack of Beagles which, as a youth, kept me a good deal fitter than I am now! The dogs come with me on the boats on most days and provide a good deal of enjoyment for our passengers.

  FOLLY
      CHARACTER

This dog will never wear herself out - she is just too laid back for words. A highly sociable animal she enjoys the company of people and other dogs. She is more than capable of retrieving, but exertion to her is to break into a gracefull trot! Admittedly she covers a lot of ground as she is rather too tall for a bitch and her gentle gait is deceiving. An afectionate and delightful companion

  SAGA
      CHARACTER

Saga was an 'old fashioned' flatcoat with great energy and 'drive'. At her very happiest when 'working' she was brilliant at retrieving, although very reluctant to leave a retrieve if she was unable to recover. She was a fairly 'quirkey' dog who, amongst her other tricks, was able to carry three tennis ball in her mouth at one time! Enjoyed water but was not very keen on swimming, she prefered to avoid other dogs. She died of cancer in late 2003 and is much missed
