Flatcoat Verse

Farewell my Flatcoat

Another death, this time of my wonderful bitch, Folly. I have tried to capture those moments when your dog has died but you see a pair of brown eyes looking up at you, down at you, around every corner at you . . . .

Your place beside me walking,
Your place by fireside lying,
Your place in kitchen thieving,
Your place round garden playing.

Your place at food-bowl guzzling,
Your place with pup play-fighting,
Your place on terrace sunning,
Your place the back-seat driving.

Your place with roll-on stinking,
Your place in water swimming,
Your place on rope a-tugging,
Your place with people greeting.

Your place 'neath desk down-flopping,
Your place o'er hills out-reaching,
Your place through woods exploring,
Your place my boots up-lacing.

Your place by bathtub licking,
Your place across floor stretching,
Your place all cats pursuing,
Your place my pockets snuffling.

Your place not now with living,
Your place of body burying,
Your place now for remembering,
Your place, my heart, forever in.
